The Greek island of Karpathos has been ranked among Europe’s 11 “hidden gems” for outdoor experiences, according to a new feature by international travel platform Travel and Tour World.
The website, which reaches more than 20 million travelers and industry professionals worldwide, highlighted a growing global shift toward authentic, less-crowded destinations. It noted that “the oversaturation of major tourist spots is driving rapid change across the travel industry, as more visitors each year seek tranquility and authenticity elsewhere.”
Karpathos was placed 10th on the list as “the serene side of the Greek islands,” praised for its emerald waters, dramatic mountain landscapes, scenic hiking routes, and picturesque traditional villages. Other destinations featured include lesser-known sites in France, Georgia, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Portugal, Wales, and the Balkans.
The recognition comes as the Karpathos Municipality steps up efforts to promote adventure and nature tourism. The island will host the first Karpathos Climb Adventure Fest on October 6–7, 2025, a two-day event celebrating alternative tourism.
The festival will combine outdoor activities such as climbing, hiking, trail running, cycling, and diving with cultural and culinary experiences, including local pasta-making demonstrations, pottery workshops, and traditional music events. International media representatives are expected to attend, helping showcase the island’s unique natural and cultural heritage to global audiences.
