Greek Deputy Prime Minister Kostis Hatzidakis visited the Hellenic Cables plant in Corinth to mark the completion of new production units, praising the resilience and innovation of the country’s industrial sector.
During his visit, Mr. Hatzidakis toured the company’s modern facilities, accompanied by Ioannis Stassinopoulos, CEO and member of the Board of Viohalco, and Alexis Alexiou, CEO of Cenergy Holdings. He was briefed in detail on the plant’s operations, recent investments, and export activities.
Following the visit, the Deputy Prime Minister posted on social media:
“Greeks are champions even in areas we might not imagine! There are Greek industries that would be envied even by the most advanced countries in the world. One of them is Hellenic Cables in Corinth — a dynamic and innovative company producing and exporting technologically advanced energy and telecommunications cables, participating in demanding energy projects both in Greece and abroad.”
He highlighted the company’s role in major infrastructure projects, including the Peloponnese–Crete electrical interconnection, for which it manufactured the alternating current submarine cable. Hatzidakis noted that Hellenic Cables has recently expanded its facilities with state-of-the-art equipment and numerous new hires. The Corinth plant now employs around 1,200 people.
More broadly, he emphasized that Greece’s industrial output and exports have increased in recent years, creating 60,000 new jobs.
“These achievements are clearly the result of the significant efforts made by entrepreneurs and their employees,” he said, “but they are also the outcome of the government’s pro-investment policy.”
He added that the government is preparing measures, already announced by the Prime Minister, to reduce energy costs for industries — particularly energy-intensive ones — in order to support their operations and safeguard jobs.
“Greek industry is standing tall, and we are supporting it in practice,” Mr. Hatzidakis concluded.
