Greek Australian Restaurateur Chris Lucas has officially launched the Sydney outpost of his acclaimed Grill Americano, transforming the ground floor of the heritage-listed Qantas House into a 170-seat Italian grill in the heart of the CBD.

Located at the prominent corner of Hunter and Phillip Streets, the venue — once the airline’s headquarters — features a striking 30-metre marble bar, a wood-fired oven imported from Naples, and a Josper grill anchoring an open kitchen.
Executive chef Vincenzo Ursini and pasta specialist Simone Giorgianni lead the kitchen, offering an expansive menu that includes Sydney-exclusive dishes like tuna ’nduja crostini and prawn panzerotto with caviar, alongside Melbourne favorites such as octopus carpaccio and grilled scampi with pilaf.

A 15-cut premium steak selection directly challenges nearby heavyweights including Rockpool, Bistecca, and The Gidley. The dessert highlight: a tableside-scooped tiramisu hailed as “Australia’s best.”
Sommelier Paolo Saccone curates a 10,000-bottle list, with a 100-bottle shortlist priced between $70 and $100.
Key Details:
- Location: 1 Chifley Square, Sydney
- Hours: Daily, midday to midnight
- Reservations: 5,000 bookings secured within one hour of opening
- Upcoming: Italian breakfast menu launching in early 2026
Lucas, already operating a successful Chin Chin in Surry Hills, expressed optimism about Sydney’s dining scene: “The city feels busier than Melbourne right now. If the food, service, and fit-out deliver, demand follows.”
The venue marks Lucas’s latest expansion in Sydney’s competitive luxury dining landscape.
