Stefanos Tzimas continued his red-hot form with another goal for Greece under-21s, keeping their perfect record intact in the race for a European Championship finals berth.
The young Greeks crushed Georgia 3-0 at home to stay top of their qualifying group. Albion forward Tzimas, deployed centrally in a front three, dragged an early effort wide before coolly converting a first-half penalty to break the deadlock. He was substituted in the 65th minute.
That strike marks three goals in three consecutive matches for the 19-year-old, including a memorable winner in the away victory over Germany.
Next up: a home clash with Northern Ireland in Livadeia on Tuesday.
Tzimas has openly stated his ambition to follow club-mate Charalampos Kostoulas into the senior Greece squad. Kostoulas earned his first senior call-up this window and is in camp for the upcoming friendly against Scotland.
Both Greek imports started Brighton’s recent Carabao Cup defeat at Arsenal, while Kostoulas opened his Premier League account with a goal at Manchester United.
Tzimas, meanwhile, has received the green light from Albion manager Fabian Hurzeler that he is now physically and tactically ready for top-flight action.
“He is physically more ready, he’s adapting to the demands from the Premier League,” Hurzeler said. “He’s doing well in training. He’s getting better in possession, in understanding our style of play—so it’s just a mix of everything.”
