The United States’ Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Michael Waltz, publicly thanked Greece for supporting the U.S.-drafted UN Security Council resolution on Gaza.
In a message posted on X, Waltz expressed his “gratitude” to Athens for backing what he described as a “vital” initiative aimed at addressing the crisis in the region.
In a corresponding post, the Permanent Mission of Greece to the UN reaffirmed its support for the draft resolution, calling it “an important step toward solidifying the ceasefire and significantly increasing large-scale humanitarian assistance.”
According to the Greek mission, the proposal “opens the path toward Palestinian self-determination and statehood, paving the way for sustainable peace, security, and stability across the region.”
Waltz’s statement came after the U.S. briefed Security Council member states on the details of the draft resolution. Qatar, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Pakistan, Jordan, and Turkey also participated in the briefing, which focused on securing a lasting ceasefire and boosting humanitarian aid flows into Gaza.
