Volodymyr Zelensky in Athens Today - Energy at the Center of the Meeting with K. Mitsotakis

Volodymyr Zelensky is in Athens today. The Ukrainian President will meet with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, with whom he will discuss energy issues.

Volodymyr Zelensky will meet in sequence with the President of the Republic Konstantinos Tasoulas, followed by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis at the Maximos Mansion, and his meetings will conclude with the President of the Parliament Nikitas Kaklamanis. For security reasons, the times of the meetings have not been announced.

According to information, energy remains the central topic of discussions in these meetings. The vertical corridor, that is, the transfer of natural gas from the port of Alexandroupoli to Ukraine via countries such as Romania and Moldova, constitutes a project of strategic importance. Last week, moreover, significant developments were noted with the agreements signed at the Zappeio and with the transfer of American LNG through this specific pipeline. At the same time, Mr. Zelensky does not fail in every meeting to raise the issue of strengthening Ukrainian defense; however, as the government has repeated many times, it is not feasible for Greece to provide defense systems that are essential for its own defense.

Which Roads Will Be Closed Due to Zelensky's Visit to Athens

A ban on gatherings in the center of Athens, as well as in the areas of Filothei and Chalandri, will be in effect today due to the visit of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, according to the police.

The implementation of the measure began at 6:00 AM and will last until 10:00 PM today.

In a statement yesterday, the Police said: "With decisions of the Directors of the Athens Police Directorates and Northeastern Attica, all public outdoor gatherings are prohibited on Sunday, November 16, 2025, from 06:00 to 22:00, in anticipation of the visit of the President of Ukraine, in the following areas delimited by the points below":

Leoforos Vas. Konstantinou – Leoforos Vas. Olgas – Leoforos Vas. Amalias – Xenofontos – Filellinon – Syntagma Square – Stadiou – Amerikis – Lycabettus – I. Rogkakou – Kleomenous – Ploutarchou – Rizari – Leoforos Vas. Konstantinou.

Municipalities of Filothei-Psychiko and Chalandri

Leoforos Kifisias – Vekiarelis – Griva Digeni – 25th March – Bizaniou – Korytsas – Benaki – Kokkoni – Leoforos Kifisias – Agamemnonos – Ag. Varvaras – Serron – Leoforos Kifisias.

According to the announcement, the ban is deemed necessary, as the holding of gatherings may cause serious risks to public safety, such as the commission of serious crimes against life, bodily integrity, or property, while at the same time, significant disruption to social and economic activity in the above areas is threatened.

Tomorrow, Monday, November 17, Zelensky will travel to Paris where he will meet with the President of France Emmanuel Macron.
