Potential Trump and Maduro Talks Amid US Sanctions Threat

Former US President Donald Trump suggested Sunday that discussions with Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro could be possible, while the State Department announced plans to designate a supposed cartel allegedly led by Maduro as a terrorist organization on November 24.

Speaking to reporters at Palm Beach International Airport, Trump said, “We could have talks with Maduro, and we’ll see how that goes,” adding that Venezuelan officials “would like to talk,” without providing further details.

The remarks come as Maduro and his government remain a focus of Washington’s scrutiny, with the US continuing to bolster military forces in the Caribbean. An aircraft carrier and strike group recently arrived in the region as part of the heightened US presence.
