The US wants to push China out of Greek ports: The Guilfoyle and Theodorikakos meeting

Washington is relying on the strategic expansion of its presence in Greek ports. Despite harsh criticism from COSCO, Ambassador Kimberly Guilfoyle supports the ONEX Investment plan in Eleusis, promoting American influence in Greece's key logistics hubs.

Greece's port infrastructure is once again at the center of the US-China rivalry. A meeting between Development Minister Takis Theodorikakos and US Ambassador Kimberly Guilfoyle in Athens on Tuesday showed that Washington intends to significantly strengthen its presence in Greek ports, relying on Eleusis and the Triasio logistics hub.

According to sources, the port of Eleusis and the adjacent logistics complex are planned to be developed into a major transportation hub capable of competing with the Chinese COSCO port in Piraeus.

The project will be implemented through the company ONEX, and the necessary changes will be prepared with the help of a legislative initiative, which will be submitted to parliament soon.

The United States has long expressed displeasure that the strategic port of Piraeus is under the control of the Chinese COSCO.

In her first interview in Greece, Kimberly Guilfoyle bluntly said that Washington intends to "counter" Chinese influence by investing in other Greek ports.

"Greece will become an energy hub," she emphasized, adding that this is why US President Donald Trump chose her as ambassador. "We want to demonstrate that Greece can become the energy hub that will help us counter Russian and Chinese interests. What we are seeking is energy independence, which will strengthen national defense and national security."
