Dutch Airport Shut Down as Multiple Drones Appear in Airspace

Air traffic at Eindhoven Airport in southern Netherlands was temporarily suspended following the appearance of multiple drones in the vicinity, the Dutch Defence Minister, Ruben Brekelmans, announced on X.

“Counter-drone equipment is ready to take action. Investigations are ongoing,” Minister Brekelmans stated.

Earlier, the Dutch military reportedly employed weaponized systems against drones at Volkel Air Base, located 40 kilometers from Eindhoven, according to the Ministry of Defence. No details were provided regarding the origin of the drones.

Incursions by drones and other aerial vehicles have increasingly disrupted European airspace in recent months. In September, over 20 Russian drones entered Polish airspace, and three Russian military aircraft violated Estonian airspace for 12 minutes.

Since then, drone activity of unknown origin has caused multiple operational disruptions across Europe. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has described these events as acts of “hybrid warfare.”

Authorities continue to investigate the Eindhoven incident as airspace operations gradually resume.
