Greece and the United States are entering a new era of cooperation, with a focus on energy security, regional stability, and innovation, according to U.S. Ambassador Kimberly Gilfoyle. In her first recorded message from Athens, Gilfoyle reiterated that Greece is a “reliable ally and vital partner” for the United States.
Ambassador Gilfoyle emphasized the shared challenges and priorities for both countries, including expanding energy collaboration, enhancing regional security, deepening trade and investment ties, and exploring new avenues for technological innovation. Her tenure aims to strengthen the U.S.-Greece friendship and write “the next chapter in U.S.-Greece cooperation.”
The first three weeks of Ambassador Gilfoyle’s arrival in Athens have been marked by a series of high-level events, including the revival of the “3+1” energy cooperation framework between Greece, Cyprus, Israel, and the U.S., facilitated during the P-TEC forum. These developments reflect a sharp contrast in bilateral deliverables between the “before” and “after” her arrival, signaling tangible progress in Greek-American relations.
Preparations are underway for two major milestones: the upcoming visit of U.S. Senator Marco Rubio ahead of the 6th round of the Greece-U.S. Strategic Dialogue, and the first official meeting between Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and U.S. President Donald Trump during his second term. Sources indicate the leaders could initially meet in Davos, January 2026, at the World Economic Forum, before formalizing potential visits to Athens or the White House.
Looking ahead, Greece and the U.S. will continue to work closely on regional energy projects, including GSI, IMEC, and EastMed, with a ministerial meeting of the “3+1” format scheduled for spring in Washington. These initiatives aim to strengthen regional energy security and prosperity, while agreements with Ukraine and U.S. investment in the GSI cable project further solidify Greece’s strategic and regulatory role in the evolving energy landscape of the region.
