Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has confirmed that the Greece-Turkey High-Level Cooperation Council will convene in the near future, in response to Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis' recent assessment that the conditions are now "mature" for such a meeting.
In an interview with Kathimerini's correspondent Manolis Kostidis on Saturday, Fidan stated that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan would gladly host the council and chair the proceedings.
Originally scheduled for early 2025 in Ankara, the meeting had been postponed by the Turkish side.
"This High-Level Cooperation Council must take place now. Our president will be happy to host and preside over it," Fidan emphasized.
When questioned about Mitsotakis' proposal for a summit involving Eastern Mediterranean countries, Fidan responded: "We have not examined it yet, but first we need to revive the High-Level Cooperation Council."
