American actor George Clooney, his wife Amal Alamuddin Clooney, and their two children have been granted French citizenship, according to a naturalisation decree published on Saturday in France’s Official Journal, a copy of which was obtained by Agence France-Presse (AFP).
As reported by Paris Match, the decree applies to the famous couple and their eight-year-old twins.
Far from Hollywood, the award-winning actor — known for iconic roles in the television series ER and the film Ocean’s Eleven — and his Lebanese-British wife, a prominent human rights lawyer, spend part of their lives in France.
Clooney, 64, has previously spoken warmly about his connection to the country. “I love French culture and your language, even if I’m still just as bad after 400 days of lessons,” the actor and director said in an interview with RTL earlier this month.
The naturalisation underscores the family’s close ties to France, where they have increasingly divided their time in recent years.
