The Greek government has declared satisfaction via its spokesperson on Monday concerning the European Union’s stance on Turkey and the country’s ongoing negotiations with FYROM.
“It is important that Europe showed itself united" on the issue of Turkish aggression, government spokesman Dimitris Tzanakopoulos said during a media interview interview with "Sto Kokkino" radio station, noting that Turkey must return to the path of legality and reason.
When asked about the progress of talks with FYROM, Tzanakopoulos said hat a solution was impending provided that the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) revises its constitution since this is a requirement if the name agreed upon is to apply in all circumstances or "erga omnes".
Tzanakopoulos claimed that both countries found the necessary political will to achieve a solution but now also required to find the technical framework to manoeuvre in. He noted that the talks are on the right track, though there was still a lot of work to do and ground to cover until an agreement was reached.
He also expressed his certainty that, if Athens and Skopje manage to reach an agreement on a name, it will also be possible to get a substantial parliamentary majority to back it.
Commentating on the Novartis case, the spokesman noted that the government did everything it could to shed light on the case, while the opposition, through its departure from the relevant committee, showed that it does not the truth revealed but a cover-up.
On the Regional Development Conference, which began this morning in Thessaloniki, he noted that it is very important, because the government's planning for the new production model will be based on the specific conferences.
