A 2024 study has revealed a significant rise in theft incidents at religious sites across Greece, with Orthodox churches bearing the brunt of nearly 4,000 cases over nine years. Last year alone saw 591 cases, the worst recorded to date. While incidents at non-Orthodox sites are rare, a worrying trend of organized theft targeting high-value religious artifacts has emerged. Authorities are continuing investigations to prevent further losses.
