Early Morning Riots in Exarchia Result in Injuries and Arrests

Riots broke out in the early morning hours in the Exarchia area, leading to three police officers being injured and nine arrests.

According to the Hellenic Police (ELAS), the incidents began shortly before midnight when a group of about 20 individuals attacked a riot squad with Molotov cocktails at the intersection of Themistokleous and Metaxa streets.

Following the initial assault, officers from the DRASIS and OPKE units, while searching for the attackers in surrounding streets, faced further attacks with stones and bottles from unidentified assailants. These subsequent attacks occurred on Kolettis, Benaki, Mesologgiou, and Tzavela streets.

Three police officers sustained minor injuries during the clashes and were taken to the 401 Military Hospital for treatment.

ELAS reported that the police detained 21 individuals in connection with the riots, with nine of these detentions resulting in formal arrests.
