Greece’s Finance Minister Euclid Tsakalotos met yesterday in Brussels with the EU Economics Commissioner Pierre Moscovici to discuss the scheduled release of the next 2.8 billion euros in aid for Greece.
Discussions for the next bail-out funds are subject to the implementation of Greece’s reform programme with both men agreeing on the need that all necessary actions be applied for the sake of the programme’s success.
Also discussed during their meeting was the need for setting up a crisis management response mechanism with direct line between Athens and Brussels as a means of resolving any immediate or emerging issues.
Finally on the table for discussion, was also the issue of debt restricting with proposed suggestions to be tabled before the end of the year which would show the markets that Greek debt is sustainable. On the same issue, they agreed the review must move swiftly to open the way for decisions on the involvement of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Moscovici noted Greece’s progress in achieving agreed milestones and felt optimistic about the second review due this autumn.
