Another bout of riots has occurred on the island of Lesvos when a group of Africans at the Moria migration reception centre began burning surrounding olive groves and destroying infrastructure.

Greek authorities deployed a strong police force along with platoons of MAT brought in from Athens, who dispersed the rioters and brought the situation under control.

More than 4,000 square metres of olive groves surrounding the hotspot were burnt, as well as tents, infrastructure and an unknown quantity of waste bins within the compound.

There was also damage to five cars owned by police and other employees parked outside the Moria camp and a total of seven police officers were injured, one of which was taken to hospital as a precaution.

According to reports, police have arrested more than 30 African nationals for instigating the violence and they will be taken to the pre-departure centre. One migrant was also taken to hospital as a precaution, due to respiratory problems caused by breathing in teargas.
