A huge part of Greek culture involves food.

Greece’s delicious dishes and recipes bring family and friends together around the dinner table, encourage the sharing of stories and allow you to create wonderful memories.

We Greeks use food as a means of retaining our cultural identity and strive to instill these same values in younger generations.

Anestis Taverna – the newest addition to Toronto’s Danforth – located in the heart of Canada’s Greek town is a restaurant that aims to support this key component of Greek cultural identity and also shares it with its guests.

The fresh new eatery offers a large selection of authentic home cooked meals including, fresh seafood, mixed meat platters and the best homemade moussaka around! Daily specials include, octopus marinated and grilled to perfection, traditional chicken avgolemono (chicken and lemon) soup and not to mention the exquisite fresh fish that’s delivered to the restaurant daily.

Fresh Fish

With the head chef originating from the motherland, it’s no surprise the food tastes as delicious as it does, reminding many of the tastes and flavours that originated in the Aegean.

Anestis’ chefs offer years of experience and expertise in Greek style cooking that you’ll surely enjoy. The restaurant offers a trendy, chic yet casual atmosphere; making it a perfect spot for planned dinners or impromptu dates with your loved ones.

Honey Phyllo

Here’s a quick list of my top three food items you should try:

  1. Feta Dressed with Phyllo (the perfect combination of sweet and salty with authentic Greek honey drizzled on top of sesame covered phyllo, YUM!)
  2. Moussaka (just like yiayia’s)
  3. Lamb Chops (served with “arakas”, sautéed peas served in a fresh and seasoned tomato base)
