Zakynthos authorities arrest human traffickers; detain 59 illegal immigrants

Authorities in the fire-stricken island of Zakynthos have arrested human traffickers after spotting them off the coast of Zakynthos.

The arrests came after local residents in the village of Volimes spotted 59 illegal immigrants and reported them to authorities.

Among the detainees who were from Afghanistan, Somalia and Pakistan were also 15 children and two pregnant women.

According to early information, the traffickers disembarked the migrants on Zakynthos telling them that they are in Italy and left them on the island.

The migrants were transferred to the indoors sports facility in Panagoula.
