4.2 Richter earthquake in Athens

An earthquake occurred at 11.50pm on Tuesday night and felt around Attica. According to the first information, Geodynamics said the vibration was 4.2 on the Richter scale.  The shake was felt by many locals in the area and there are reports that the earthquake was accompanied by a loud noise. However, no major damage has been reported so far.

The Director of the Geodynamic Institute and Chairman of the Earthquake Protection Agency Efthimios Lekkas presented his first statements. Mr. Lekkas reports that the earthquake was particularly felt in Attica due to its small focal depth. He noted that there is no cause for concern and that seismologists are monitoring the phenomenon.
