Greece’s new National Defence Minister, Admiral Evangelos Apostolakis has called on Greece's neighbours to "to work with us to get the Balkans out of the corner and onto the international stage, as a region that can guarantee security, stability and peace".

The statement was made during the handover ceremony at the Ministry, as Admiral Evangelos Apostolakis resigned from his post as Hellenic Armed Forces Commander, to take on his new role as National Defence Minister, stating that Greece is “steadily orientated towards peaceful coexistence and cooperation.”

“I want to remind our neighbours that, whenever cooperation and trust prevail, our peoples have progressed. However, when nationalism has dominated, people suffered. Respect for international law must be the foundation for our relations and that is the only 'red' line in our relationship," he continued.
