Greece’s Association of Grills announced a Souvlaki Pita, the country's most popular street food, will increase to 3 euro as of May 1, 2019.
The 10% to 15% increase is due to the rise in the overall price of meat in Greece, said the representative of the Grills Association, Giorgos Polyzos.
According to Polyzos, since March 1, 2019, the price of meat in the country has increased by 30% and with high taxes and increased insurance contributions, his colleagues have had no choice but to increase the price of Souvlaki, in order to ensure the quality of meat stays high.
"We will make increases to ensure quality," said Mr Polyzos. "We want to make sure that the quality of the meat is good, so we are getting ready to make some increases, in order to be able to protect our product, "added Polyzos. He also stressed that all grill shops will change their prices because the increase affects everyone. "If we do not change our prices, our quality will not be good as it is now," he concluded.
