Parents of a 2-month-old baby girl who was tragically killed last Thursday, September 12, by the family dog in their home at Glyka Nera in Athens, have requested the dog be given to the baby’s uncle to look after.

Since the day of the tragedy, the Rottweiler was taken by police to the “Hellenic Animal Society” and the animal has remained there under surveillance.

According to authorities, the dog has not shown any signs of aggression and the “Hellenic Animal Society” has told Greek media it is a quiet animal.

Hours after the baby girl lost her life, the father stated, “We got this dog in 2011. He was always obedient. He has never been aggressive towards our children. We have three boys and he played with them without ever creating the slightest issue. He was like a member of our family. ”

Mr. Kanouri, head veterinarian at the “Hellenic Animal Society”, says the dog will soon be returned to the family or it will be given to a foster family. So far, he said, the family has expressed a desire to have the Rottweiler stay at a relative’s home, the children’s uncle, rather than in their apartment where the horrific incident occurred.

However, a prosecutor in charge of the investigation will take into account all the facts and determine what will happen to the animal.
