The Northern Aegean islands of Lesvos, Samos and Chios will be in total lockdown on Wednesday 22nd January, as local councils decided to go on a 24-hour strike to protest the government's handling on the refugee and migration crisis.

The decision of the general strike was made during a conference call by Regional Governor of the North Aegean islands, Costas Moutzouri.

According to sources it was also decided that on Thursday 23rd January, Moutzouri along with a committee consisting of regional mayors, will travel to Athens to consult the relevant ministries.
