Greece’s national health system has received an 8 million euro donation from Hellenic Petroleum, it was announced on Thursday.

Hellenic Petroleum, one of Greece’s largest refiners and traders of petroleum products, said the donation goes towards the strengthening of the national health system against the coronavirus pandemic.

The donation will go towards the purchase of much needed medical equipment and supplies, as well as the donation of heating and motor fuels during the coronavirus crisis.

The equipment includes, among other things, molecular diagnostics systems imported from the United States that will double the number of tests performed daily in tracking down SARS-CoV-2, the coronavirus that causes the Covid-19 disease.

Also on Thursday, the Heracles Group of LafargeHolcim, a leading company in the Greek construction materials market, announced the donation of medical supplies and an Isolation Box to the General Hospital of Volos, in central Greece, fully equipped with medical instruments capable of receiving and evaluating suspect Covid-19 cases without endangering others at the hospital.
