The Mayor of Athens, Kostas Bakoyannis has praised the "honesty and integrity" of an employee of the Municipality of Athens, who found a bag containing €19,000 and handed it over to the police.

The cleaning worker came across the bag while working, informed a colleague about it and then together they took it to the police station.

Kostas Bakoyannis, as shown in the video below which he posted to his social media accounts, met the worker and congratulated her on her actions.

"Evangelia works in the cleaning of our municipality. She found a bag with 19,000 euros and with her colleague, they handed it over to the police. Evangelia I say a big thank you, not for the bag but because it sends a great message to all of us. That dignity, humanity and mutual respect are the keys to a better society," the mayor said in a statement.
