Greek official: “Turkey is internationally isolated”

Miltiadis Varvitsiotis

The Deputy Minister of European Affairs of Greece, Miltiadis Varvitsiotis, said that the statements by German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macron on the Greek-Turkish issue and the sanctions against Turkish provocations were “resounding,” speaking on Saturday morning to SKAI.

At the same time, Varvitsiotis said that the sanctions imposed by the European Union Council of Foreign Ministers meeting on Turkey’s provocative stance in the Eastern Mediterranean, specifically against Greece and Cyprus, lay a good basis for the discussions that will take place from now on.

“Turkey must get the message that its relations with Europe will not continue to be smooth – not even economically – if it continues to have this attitude,” he said.

He added that “at the moment Turkey is in international isolation.”
