Yesterday, the Chief of the Greek General Staff, General Konstantinos Floros, participated by teleconference in the Meeting of the European Union Military Committee (EUMC) for Chiefs of General Staffs of the Armed Forces.
The Commander-in-Chief referred to the need for close cooperation in the evolving Military Planning and Conduct Capability (MPCC) with the corresponding Policy [Civilian Planning and Conduct Capability (CPCC)], as well as the need for an EU Military Staff in order to make its role effective in decision-making and implementation, as well as in the Management and Control of EU operations.
The Head of the General Staff, noting the catalytic combined role of the European Union and NATO in achieving security and stability worldwide, stressed the ongoing need to update their framework of cooperation, in order to become fully in line with the prevailing conditions and to deal effectively with . He referred to the behavior of Turkey, which constantly creates obstacles and significant difficulties in any effort of effective cooperation between the two organizations.
In addition, he stressed the participation of the Greek Armed Forces in Operations and Actions of the European Union and the intention of Greece to contribute in the future to the further development of the EU Operational Capabilities.
In addition, he pointed out the continuous provocative and illegal behavior of Turkey, which, especially recently with its actions in the Eastern Mediterranean, violates international law, violates any principle of good neighborliness with Greece, the Republic of Cyprus and other countries, and endangers peace and stability in the wider region, despite de-escalation efforts at various levels.
Finally, he referred to the constant readiness of the Greek Armed Forces and the professionalism of their personnel, due to which the situation remains under control despite the provocation of Turkey.
