Greek mainland to burn as temperatures reach 44 degrees

Greece is expected to ‘burn’ today, Thursday 1 July with temperatures reaching 43-44 degrees on the mainland according to the forecast by the National Observatory of Athens.

The forecast for today is sunshine with very high temperatures ranging from 21 to 37 degrees in Northern Greece, 26 to 44 degrees in Central and Southern Greece, 22 to 39 degrees in Western Greece (up to 35 degrees in Epirus), 24 to 38 degrees in the Cyclades and Crete (locally in Southern Crete up to 39 degrees), 24 to 40 degrees in the islands of the Eastern Aegean and from 25 to 36 degrees Celsius in the Dodecanese.

Winds will reach a moderate 3-4 Beauforts  in the North and Central Aegean from variable directions, with gradual winds turning in the afternoon to northwest moderate at 5 Beauforts, in the South Aegean from southwestern directions weak to almost moderate at 3-4 Beauforts and gradually in the Southwest Aegean moderate at 5 Beaufort. In the Ionian the winds will blow from northwest directions weak to almost moderate at 4 Beaufort.

The forecast for Attica, is sunshine, very high temperatures and local clouds during the hot hours of the day, mainly in the northern parts of the prefecture, The temperature will range from 27 to 39 degrees; while the western parts will experience temperatures up to 40-41 degrees. The winds will blow from variable directions weak to almost moderate at 3-4 Beauforts, while in the afternoon they will turn to northwest moderate at 4-5 Beauforts. For Thessaloniki, the forecast is sunshine with a few clouds during the hot hours of the day in the surrounding mountains and high temperatures are expected in Thessaloniki. The temperature will range from 26 to 37 degrees Celsius. The winds in Thermaikos will blow from variable directions, weak and temporarily almost moderate at 4 Beauforts, where in the afternoon they will turn to northwest moderate at 4-5 Beauforts.
