VACCINATION RACE: Covid-19 infections in Britain could rise to 100,000 a day 1

The number of Covid-19 infections in Britain could rise to 100,000 a day, said UK Health Minister Sajid Javid yesterday adding that the government would not implement the so-called “Plan B” of emergency measures for the time being.

“We are examining the data carefully and we will not implement plan B of the emergency measures at this point, but we will remain vigilant, preparing for any eventuality,” he told a news conference.

At the same time, Javid stressed that the country is losing ground in its efforts to overcome the pandemic with the administration of vaccines, adding that people should come to be vaccinated against the disease and take booster doses of vaccines if they are eligible.

“We are in a race, a race between the vaccine and the virus. And even though we are ahead of this race, the distance is narrowing,” Javid said, noting that 5 million people over the age of 16 still have not been vaccinated.

“If we want to secure these freedoms in the long run, then the best we can do is go (get vaccinated), once again, when that time comes,” he added.

Meanwhile doctors and health organisations have called for measures to be implemented now to reduce stress on the National Health System (NHS).
