A direct flight from Paris to Skiathos island on Holy Saturday inaugurated the new tourism period for the Sporades group island, as 137 passengers of Transavia Airlines were welcomed with traditional sweets.

The flight left the Charles De Gaulle airport and is the culmination of efforts by the Skiathos authorities, in collaboration with the National Tourism Organization of Greece offices in Athens and Paris, the Ministry of Tourism, and the airline, a low-cost carrier that is part of the Air France KLM Group.

For the time being there will be only one flight per week; a second will be added in June, July and August.

The travelers were welcomed by Skiathos Mayor Thodoris Tzoumas and President of the island's Hoteliers Association Alexandros Efstathiou, and the island's women's association who offered information brochures and traditional sweets.

Skiathos is being promoted in France at the Paris metro and in campaigns connected with Transavia. Mayor Tzoumas called the start of the flights "a historic moment for Skiathos' tourism annals."
