Turkish analyst: “Greece is the new PKK, Mitsotakis is the new Zelensky”

Turkish expert on terrorism and security Coşkun Başbuğ characterised Greece as the new Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis as the new Volodymyr Zelensky, provocatively adding that Greece is being used by the US to pressure on Turkey due to its Syria policy.

Speaking on TVNET, Başbuğ spoke about a “game” that the US is playing in Syria, through Greece, in order to “calm down” Ankara, which is preparing a new military invasion in Syria.

“We are starting a new operation in the northern part of Syria. Right in the heart of it, Greece will say: ‘I increase the territorial waters to 12 n.m.’. Do not have any doubts,” Başbuğ said, drawing Turkey’s attention.

The analyst stressed that the US does not take kindly to the new operation that Turkey is preparing in the northern part of Syria and that is why it may “use” Greece in order to increase the pressure on Ankara.

The PKK has been involved in an armed conflict with the Turkish state since 1984, with the initial goal of achieving an independent Kurdish state. Turkey has called it a “terrorist organisation” and is systematically fighting the group, but to date has not been able to dismantle its structure and forces.
