Babis Anagnostopoulos’ parents in court for Lydia to return to Greece

The applications of Susan Crouch, mother of Caroline, and the parents of Babis Anagnostopoulos, focusing on little Lydia, were discussed behind closed doors today at the Court of First Instance of Athens.

It should be noted that the two sides have submitted opposing applications. Caroline’s mother requested to change the hours and way of communication since they are moving to the Philippines.

However, the decision of the Crouch family to live with the child in the Philippines provoked the reaction of the parents of the convicted murderer, Anagnostopoulos. With their own application, the parents of the convicted pilot requested that custody of Lydia be taken away from Caroline’s parents.

It is recalled that in October 2021, a final decision was issued that assigned custody of the child to Caroline’s parents, but recognised the rights of the perpetrator’s family to be in Lydia’s life.

According to Proto Thema, the psychiatrist Alkistis Igoumenaki, who had also testified as a witness in the trial for Caroline’s murder, testified during the process of discussing the applications.

On behalf of the parents of Anagnostopoulos, a teacher of the convicted pilot testified.

The lawyer of Caroline’s family, Thanasis Harmanis, said that the court should decide whether the child will continue to live “in the comfortable and warm environment of Caroline’s family with her cousins or will return to Greece.”

“All the effort is for the good of the child only,” noted Harmanis.

For his part, the lawyer of the family of Anagnostopoulos, Skordas, said: “The court will decide whether the child should grow up in Greece with all her grandparents or in the unknown environment in the Philippines. There is a violation of decision.”

“The grandparents learned about it from TV. The decision on the communication side is violated. If the child had remained in Alonissos, they would not have proceeded with such a move. The main purpose is to return the child to Greece,” added the lawyer.

Anagnostopoulos is serving a life sentence for suffocating 20-year-old Caroline in front of their 11-month-old daughter in May 2021.

Caroline had been tortured and suffocated with a pillow at their Athens home, with Anagnostopoulos staging a robbery and even hanging the couple’s dog Roxy in a bid to cover his tracks.

The 34-year-old claimed that an Albanian gang had been responsible for Caroline’s death, only to eventually admit to the killing as his web of lies was exposed.

Anagnostopoulos’ lawyer told The Sun that his client had been attacked in a notorious Athens prison.

In one incident, which was narrowly prevented by prison guards, Papaioannidis said an inmate had told him that he had sought him out and planned to kill him.

“Reports that he said ‘I want to kill him. I came from another prison. I’ve been looking for him’” are true,” Papaioannidis told the outlet.
