The Indian Navy began the largest military exercise TROPEX-23 in the Indian Ocean region, the Indian Ministry of Defense said.
The operational-level TROPEX exercise is held every two years and involves not only all units of the Indian Navy, but also the Indian Army, Air Force and Coast Guard assets.
"TROPEX 23 is conducted over a three-month period from January to March 2023. As part of the exercise, all surface combat ships of the Indian Navy, including destroyers, frigates, corvettes as well as submarines and aircraft, undergo complex maritime operational deployments to test and refine the Navy's concept of operations, including operational logistics and interaction with other services," the defense ministry said.
The department noted that "the increased scale and complexity of these exercises over the years provide an opportunity to test the combat readiness of India's combined naval fleets to deal with multiple threats."
"The naval exercises also promote interoperability at the operational level with the Indian Army, the Indian Air Force and the Coast Guard, which will further enhance interoperability and joint operations in challenging environments," the ministry added.
