Mitsotakis meets with Zelensky and Macron in Brussels

The meeting that Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis had with the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and other leaders on the sidelines of the European Council ended shortly after 6:00 pm on Thursday.

The prime minister reiterated the support of Greece and Europe in Ukraine's struggle to defend its national sovereignty and territorial integrity. Mitsotakis also underlined Greece's support for Ukraine's European perspective.

The President of Bulgaria, the Chancellor of Austria and the Prime Ministers of Croatia, Slovenia and Hungary also participated in the meeting with Zelensky.

Meeting with Macron

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis also had a bilateral meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron.

The two leaders discussed issues of European interest concerning the agenda of the European Council, as well as bilateral issues with a focus on the strategic cooperation between Greece and France.

On the sidelines of the European Council , the prime minister also had brief talks with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen.

Mitsotakis during his intervention on the issue of migration at the special summit in Brussels underlined the importance of dealing with illegal networks of traffickers, recalling the recent tragic incident off Leros.

He also pointed out that voluntary resettlement is not effective, while stressing the need for more financial assistance to frontline countries by giving flexibility to the Funds so that resources from the Cohesion Funds can also be used for migration, according to government sources.
