Images of shame at the Athens Polytechnic - Anarchists vandalise sculptures

Photos of damage and vandalism in the premises of the National Technical University of Athens, commonly known as the Athens Polytechnic, was brought to light by Megaklis Rogakos.

The art historian and exhibition curator uploaded the photos to her Facebook. The photos show slogans spray-painted on sculptures and walls.

"[These] are a punch in the stomach,” according to Rector Andreas Boudouvis, who stressed that students, especially architecture students, “must stand up.”

“Without the reaction of the students, there are no grounds for hope,” he noted, while also admitting the NTUA administration’s “inability to deal with this particular expression of barbarity accompanied by the violence of the vandals.”

It is recalled that NTUA was founded in 1837 and is the oldest technological institution in Greece, contributing significantly to the scientific, technical, social and economic development of the country.
