Tsipras: May 21 elections will restore democracy in ruling power

Alexis Tsipras

The Greek people's vote in the May 21 national elections will restore democracy in ruling power and send Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis home, said SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance leader Alexis Tsipras on Friday evening.

Referring to the recent wiretapping story at Eleftherias Square in Kavala, northeastern Greece, the main opposition party leader pointed out that in all Western democracies, a leader who violates the constitution and the law loses his seat  or steps down.

Lashing out further against Mitsotakis, Tsipras said that the premier was "tracking nearly half of the country's politicians from within his office, rivals and enemies, even the Armed Forces leadership. With the help of propaganda, he turned lying and spindoctoring into normalcy."

But, he insisted, instead of resigning, "Mitsotakis now claims the Greek people's vote so that he can launder his deviations."

"You will send him home with your vote on May 21," Tsipras told his audience, the people will "restore justice, and bring democracy back in ruling power."
