New Democracy leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis called on voters to give him an even higher percentage than the 40% in the May 21 elections during a public speech in the northern city of Ioannina (Yannena) on Monday.
He said that the people's mandate on Sunday's elections should produce a share of the votes high enough for a New Democracy stand-alone government so that "we can change the country."
Speaking to party supporters in Amfilochia and Fillipiada, in western Central Greece, earlier on Monday, he said that his top priority in a potential second term in government is to ensure Greece will stay on a trajectory of stable and sustainable development.
The former premier reiterated his commitment to reducing taxes across the board and setting an average monthly wage of 1,500 euros and a minimum wage of 950 euros.
He also emphasized that the only way for Greece's incomes and wages to go up is through private investments - regardless of their size, "through farmers who innovate, collaborate and export," and "tourism businesses that invest in human resources."
Finally, he said New Democracy will continue to support pensioners, while pension payout will rise anew as of January 1, 2024. He added that during his party's tenure in government, pensions went up for the first time after 12 years.
