Sweden is one step closer to joining the 31-nation-strong after Turkey backflips

President Erdogan agreed to backflip on months of opposition to its entry to NATO.

President Erdogan has agreed to forward Sweden's accession protocol to the Grand National Assembly and to ensure ratification.

Stockholm had applied for entry into the military alliance last year, but its application was rejected by Türkiye - which has the power to veto new entrants - over claims Sweden was housing members of Kurdish militant groups. In response to the move, British Prime Minister

The British Prime minister said that Rishi Sunak said: "At 32, we're all safer together", while U.S. President Joe Biden also applauded Sweden's clear path to ratification. Sweden's accession now needs to be cleared by the Turkish parliament before a date for its NATO entry can be set.
