The latest EMY emergency weather report for the heatwave was issued at noon on Sunday and says that from Thursday, the temperature will rise to 40 to 42 on the mainland, and 43 in some places, on the Ionian islands to 39 to 41, and on the Aegean Islands 36 to 38 degrees Celsius.

For his part, the director of the EMY, Thodoris Kolidas, in his own post, mentions the new thermal flare-up expected after the middle of the week that starts, "God has it from Thursday".

Arnautoglou's forecast

In the meteogram posted on Sunday at noon by ERT forecaster Sakis Arnautoglou, the uphill of temperatures starts on Wednesday with an average of 39 degrees Celsius. Temperatures above 41 degrees Celsius is expected for at least six days.

Sakis Arnautoglou explains, however, that in the closed plains the temperature can be increased by 1-2 degrees Celsius but on the contrary in the mountains from 500 meters altitude up to 4 to 8 degrees Celsius and on the islands 3-6 degrees lower.

According to the emergency bulletin of dangerous weather phenomena issued by the EMY at noon on Sunday for the course of the heat wave,

From Monday (17-7-2023) to Wednesday (19-7-2023) the temperature will not change appreciably in the east and the north, but will increase in the western continents. More specifically, the maximum temperature values ​​will reach:

  • in the northern continental ones 35 to 37 degrees Celsius
  • in the eastern continental ones 37 to 39 degrees Celsius
  • in the western continental areas 38 to 40 and in places in the western Continent 41 degrees Celsius
  • in the Ionian islands 38 to 39 degrees and in the eastern Aegean islands, the Dodecanese and southern Crete 36 to 37 degrees Celsius.

On Thursday (20-7-2023) the maximum temperature values ​​will reach the continental 40 to 42 and locally 43, the Ionian islands 39 to 41 and the Aegean islands 36 to 38 degrees Celsius.
