The fire that first broke out last Monday in Kallithea, Loutraki, and then spread to other areas is contained and under control," the deputy local governor of Corinth, Haris Vytiniotis, told the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA-MPA) on Thursday.

Regarding the damage caused by the fire, Vytiniotis said that "according to the first estimates, more than 1500 hectares have been burnt, half of which are arable land and the other half forest land."

Regarding the number of houses burnt, he noted that "based on initial estimates, the burnt houses appear to exceed 40, while there are also several other houses that have suffered minor damage."

"The fire has also caused damage to public utility network infrastructure, i.e. the electricity and water supply," he added.

Vytiniotis additionally pointed out to the ANA-MPA the problems in the road network, saying the increased temperatures as a result of the fire have damaged the asphalt.
