On Sunday, a section of the bridge at the entrance to Patras collapsed, resulting in at least one fatality, two individuals missing, and five injured. The injured victims are currently receiving treatment at the University Hospital of Rio and the hospital of Agios Andreas.

Located near a Roma settlement on the Perimetriki Odos of Patras, specifically at the 205th kilometer of the Athens-Patras national highway, the bridge had previously experienced issues with its structural integrity. Consequently, repair work had commenced on the bridge in 2021. Due to significant corrosion, the repairs were being carried out section by section.

In response to the incident, six ambulances and mobile medical units, as well as 18 firefighters and a specialist dog, were promptly dispatched to the scene by the National Emergency Center (EKAV).

Present at the site were two injured individuals who were working on the bridge's repair project.

According to Kathimerini, there were also five to six individuals, likely from the Roma community, underneath the bridge, collecting metals at the time of the collapse.

This report is based on information received from ERT and pertains to the Peloponnese region.
