A small "break" from the heat is expected for today across the country, however, the hard times start again from Tuesday.
Specifically, on the two-day period Tuesday - Wednesday, the heat will be unbearable again, while the temperature is expected to reach 44 degrees Celsius, according to the National Weather Service.
Storms with gales and unbearable heat - Which areas are affected and when
On Wednesday, the temperature will reach very high levels, but from the afternoon in the northwestern country, more specifically in the northern Ionian, Epirus and western Sterea, the weather situation will change with storms that will be temporarily accompanied by very strong north northwest winds (gales).
These short-lived, but intense phenomena will extend in the evening to Macedonia, Thessaly, the western Peloponnese and the southern Ionian.
The new emergency bulletin from EMY - The evolution of the weather
The Emergency Bulletin of Dangerous Weather Phenomena, which refers to the heatwave that has been causing intermittent heat conditions called KLEON in many regions of the country since 12-7-2023, is updated according to the latest forecast data.
In summary:
On Monday 24-7-2023 temporary retreat of very high temperatures.
On Tuesday 25-7-2023 new (the third) thermal flare-up with very high temperatures.
On Wednesday 26-7-2023, very high temperatures throughout the country, but from the afternoon the heatwave will begin its retreat from north-western Greece.
On Thursday 27-7-2023 a noticeable drop in temperature.
In more detail:
1. On Monday 24-7-2023 the temperature will drop by 2 to 5 degrees Celsius, with the largest drop observed in the eastern country and the smallest in the west. The maximum values will reach:
a. In the Ionian islands and their continental ones 38 to 40 and in places in western Sterea and the Peloponnese 41 to 42 degrees Celsius
b. the Dodecanese and southern Crete 38 to 39 degrees Celsius
c. in the rest of the island country, 35 to 37 degrees Celsius
2. On Tuesday 7-25-2023, a new heat wave is predicted in the country . The maximum temperature values will reach:
a. On the mainland 40 to 42 and locally in the interior of Thessaly and Sterea 43 to 44 degrees Celsius
b. in the Ionian islands, the islands of the eastern Aegean, the Dodecanese and southern Crete 39 to 41 degrees Celsius
c. in the rest of island Greece 36 to 38 degrees Celsius
3. On Wednesday 26-7-2023 the temperature will reach the very high levels of Tuesday, but from the afternoon in the northwestern country and more specifically in the northern Ionian, Epirus and western Sterea the weather situation will change with storms that will be temporarily accompanied by very strong north northwest winds.
These short-lived, but intense phenomena will extend in the evening to Macedonia, Thessaly, the western Peloponnese and the southern Ionian.
4. On Thursday 27-7-2023 the temperature is predicted to drop by 6 to 8 degrees throughout the country and will not exceed 35 to 37 degrees.
Kolydas: "The temperature is at good levels from next Thursday" - The mercury recedes
In a new post on social media, the director of EMY Theodoris Kolydas informs about the noticeable drop in temperature from next Thursday (up to eight degrees Celsius), underlining that the heat conditions - at least for the next few days of July - will not return.
