Bondi's Greek Topikos Dining Room & Bar to Make Way for New Pub Concept

Topikos

Topikos Dining Room & Bar, a glamorous beachside restaurant that has graced Bondi for 15 months, will bid farewell to its patrons in early September. The closure marks another in a series of Bondi restaurant departures, including Fonda, a Mexican eatery, and the highly praised local favourite, Drake.

The decision to close the doors of Topikos comes as The Point Group, headed by CEO Brett Robinson, sells the site to Edward Ryan of the esteemed Ryan family. The Ryan family is well-known for overseeing a prominent Sydney hospitality group that includes renowned establishments like the Banksia Hotel near the airport and The Orient in The Rocks.

One of the key attractions for the new owner was the hotel license associated with the site. Edward Ryan, a Bondi local and scion of the Ryan family, is eager to explore the potential of the expansive location and is set to take over as the incoming operator. Early indications suggest transforming the venue into a traditional pub model, potentially incorporating a sports bar.

Brett Robinson believes that this move is a wise decision, given the current state of the hospitality market in Bondi. He notes that there might be an oversupply of high-end establishments in the area, making a shift towards a pub concept a strategic choice.

As The Point Group redirects its focus towards its freehold hotel interests, they are gearing up for its ambitious Fort Denison hospitality project, set to open its doors in 2024. While Topikos Dining Room & Bar will be dearly missed, the exciting prospects of a new pub experience await locals and visitors in the iconic Bondi precinct.
