Sunbeds and Beach Furniture Cleared from Naxos' Idyllic Beaches Amidst Inspection Fears

The idyllic beaches of Plaka, Agia Anna, and Agios Prokopios on the Cycladic island of Naxos have been cleared of sunbeds and beach furniture amidst concerns about pending inspections and potential legal consequences. This suggests that either the necessary permits were not obtained or there were significant violations of the lease agreements.

Despite this action, activists are still uncertain whether this clearing is just a temporary measure and if the sunbeds and beach furniture will reappear once the threat of penalties subsides. Paulina Link, a member of the Save Naxos Beaches movement, recounts witnessing panic on Plaka beach during a walk with her husband: "We noticed numerous individuals loading sunbeds onto trucks without license plates, occurring in one shop after another. These were the same people who, until recently, claimed to be operating legally and were angered by our protests against the situation."
