The biggest kakavia in the world will be prepared and offered in Sitia to join the Guinness World Records, GWR, and highlight a particular aspect of our country's gastronomy.
In particular, the attempt to conquer the GWR for the largest serving of kakavia is planned for Friday, August 18, in the central square of the Cretan city of Sitia, in the presence of the organisation's evaluator, famous chefs, cultural clubs, visitors and people who will have the opportunity to try kakavia.
It should be noted that kakavia is a famous variety of Greek fish soup. Its name comes from the word kakavi, a three-legged cooking utensil the ancient Ionian fishermen used.
In modern times, the so-called "fisherman's soup" began to be prepared on fishing boats. As the fishermen were away fishing for several days, they would take potatoes, water, oil, nuts and some onions, to which various fish were added to make a delicious and nutritious soup.
Cooking will begin early at noon of the same day, observing the necessary rules of measurements, hygiene, evaluation and other parametres, collecting the materials, the local products of excellent quality, in a specially made for the cauldron occasion, in the central square of Sitia.
In addition to the variety of fish, a critical success factor is the cook's passion. Chef Dina Nikolaou will be in charge of the world's largest kakavia. As part of the event, there will be parallel actions with presentations and testing of local products, treats from cultural associations of the Sitia district, and traditional dances and music.
At the event, which will start at 7 pm, all the residents and visitors of the area are invited - they will not only participate in a unique event for Sitia but will also have the chance to taste the world's largest kakavia.
It is noted that the municipality of Sitia and the Sitia Development Organization, OAS organised the culinary project.
