The 8th Beyond Borders - Kastellorizo International Documentary Festival, brand new and full of films, activities and valuable synergies, sails off to the "edge of the Aegean" on August 20-27, 2023, turning the beautiful and remote Kastellorizo for the 8th consecutive year into a cinematographic and cultural centre of international scope!
A week full of exciting films from every corner of the world, competition sections including many world and nationwide premieres, film and art workshops, masterclasses, tributes, Pitching Lab, discussions, parallel events, art, book, music, taste and dance. A week where Kastellorizo will become a meeting point for leading international film industry professionals, emerging filmmakers, students and cinephiles, and a starting point for great cinematic journeys beyond borders. Beyond Borders has been acknowledged as one of the most important, quality documentary festivals across Europe and focuses on documentaries that deal with historical events and personalities, socio-political issues, the promotion of human rights and any cross-border core of concern that reflects contemporary film art.
Rapidly developing into an internationally renowned institution, this year it received 835 film submissions from 93 countries and included 30 world, international and Greek premieres in its screenings program.
In its 8th edition, the festival will host 3 different screening stages: The Main Competition Section, including 18 medium and feature-length documentary films, and the micro Competition Section, including 24 short documentary films, while there will be a third, non-competition screening stage, the Panorama, which will host special screenings every day.
A total of 11 prizes are awarded in the two competition sections. This year, Canada is the country of honour at the 8th Beyond Borders - Kastellorizo International Documentary Festival.
