On Tuesday morning, Greece's coast guard made a distressing discovery on the shore of a small island in the eastern Aegean Sea. They found a group of 14 migrants, including five men, six women, and three children, along with the body of a deceased man.

The incident occurred on the remote island of Farmakonisi, and the exact cause of the man's death remains unclear.

According to the coast guard, it appears that the group had arrived on the island from the Turkish coast using a dinghy that subsequently sank. Fortunately, there were no reports of anyone missing. The migrants, along with the deceased man, were transported to the nearby island of Leros under the supervision of the coast guard.

These events highlight the ongoing increase in sea crossings to Greece, as individuals flee from conflict and poverty in the Middle East, Africa, and Asia, seeking a better life within the European Union.

While Greece has experienced a significant influx of migrants, it is worth noting that Italy remains the primary entry point for the EU, with over 114,200 arrivals recorded this year. Spain follows with more than 21,000 arrivals, and Greece's figures stand at nearly 18,600, according to data from the United Nations.
