A high school complex that will be defiantly named "Makedonya" (Macedonia) opens its doors on September 11 in Malatya, eastern Turkey, a city majorly affected by last February's deadly earthquakes.

The school was built with money collected by the Chamber of Commerce of North Macedonia and Turkey and a donation from the Red Cross, which financed the construction of several school units in the affected areas.

According to the North Macedonian network Kanal 5, the new school is 8,000 sq.m. and has 24 classrooms named after cities in North Macedonia.

"The school symbolises the spirit of friendship and cooperation between the peoples of the two countries; it was built with a donation of 1 million euros, in which the members of the EBMT and the Red Cross participated. A donation that was used to build one of the hundreds of schools that were destroyed in the devastating earthquake in the Malatya region and is a top effort to help the Turkish people after the natural disaster that occurred on February 6," says a statement from the Chamber of Commerce of North Macedonia and Turkey.

A sign was placed on the face of the new school complex that reads "Makedonya High School".
