Erdoğan: "Our goal is to dissolve the troubled atmosphere we have with Greece in the Aegean"

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan

The Turkish President Tayyip Erdoğan's statements, upon his return to Ankara from New York, are presented in detail by the newspaper Hürriyet under the title: "New era movement with Israel and Greece. Erdoğan's statements upon his return".

The publication emphasises that: "While President Tayyip Erdoğan met with many leaders on the occasion of the UN General Assembly, he also gave messages of closer cooperation with Greece and Israel in the new period. Erdoğan, who will meet again with the Greek prime minister in Thessaloniki on December 7, said: 'Our goal is to defuse the troubled atmosphere in the Aegean. The Thessaloniki Summit will be an important leap in our relations'," the publication states.

Erdoğann's statement

"Our Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will meet with the Foreign Minister of Greece. Likewise, my Chief Advisor on Foreign Policy and Security, Akif Kılıç, will be working with his counterpart. Our goal is to dissolve the troubled atmosphere in the Aegean, and Mitsotakis' approach is in this direction.

"But if God wills the most important step for us right now, it will be the summit in Thessaloniki. The Thessaloniki Summit will now be a major leap forward between Turkey and Greece.

"Our Foreign Ministers will make preliminary preparations, and we will hold this Summit in Thessaloniki, hopefully on December 7. With this summit, we hope to see that many things have changed.

"As in Turkey and Greece, we must stay away from steps and statements that will damage the environment of trust. They must take steps together in this area in order for the upcoming process to proceed safely."
